On our way through 2008..

And to recap: All of our school/activities started back up on January 7th (Music, Spanish, Kids Club, Gymnastics, H.O.P.E./Friday School, Co-ops, Field Trips)...Maisie broke her arm on January 12th...had it casted on January 14th...saw the Ortho again on the 24th...we all started getting sick on the 25th...Lily has an ear infection and is on antibiotics and we're all trying to get well today.

Phew! A bit of a rocky start this year. And yet I'm still grateful because, in general, we've been rather healthy. I haven't been sick since 2 weeks before I gave birth, so that's almost 4 months between illness (knock on wood!). The girls have been rather healthy as well, up until recently. The broken arm...well, what are you going to do? She's my child, after all!

I have much updating to do, which was in my grand plan for last weekend. I'm hoping to do it soon because I have pictures from Christmas Crafts, the Stock Show, Valentine's Crafts, Penpal stuff to talk about...there will be updates!

Plugging along

Having 4 babies in 5.5 years has thrown a kink in homeschooling. We are still very active in our homeschool group with field trips and co-ops along with Music Class, Spanish Class, and Gymnastics. Maisie is still in Friday School with her homeschooling friends.

If you add up all of her activites, our kindergartener spends an average of 12 hours a week doing something "educational" aside from what we would normally do at home. We plan to evolve back into our routine of a couple hours of more work per day, but for now, baby rules the schedule.

One of the main reasons I wanted to have my kids so close together was that I knew we wouldn't have as much organized time for learning with a baby in the house. It's not such a big impact now in Kindergarten, but as Maisie gets older it would be harder to accomplish all we wanted for the "school year."

Add to that the fact that Maisie broke her right arm--her dominant arm--and most of what we are doing is oral, anyway. I try to take any opportunity we have to learn and I'm amazed at how much they are learning.

I'll try to start posting our activites again now that the Holidays are over and Lily is getting a bit more portable.
