Penpals

There's something magic about having a penpal. A few months ago, I arranged penpals with an online group (moms with kids born in April/May/June 2002) I help manage.

Maisie's penpal is from Canada. When a letter arrives, she gets so excited! So much so, she doesn't argue about reading and starts writing a letter without my prompting. Today she was sounding out and writing words such as "favorite" and "purple" all by herself. What an easy way to get in a writing lesson!

Dani also has a penpal. He's her age and from Washington state. They exchange photos and drawings, and his mom and I write short messages to the other. Both of my girls love getting mail.

Yesterday, Katie (2 year old) asked, "mommy, where's my mail?" Another year and hopefully I can get a penpal for her as well.

Who says hand written letters are dead?

(PS--April, if you're reading this, Maisie would love a letter now that her cast is off!!)
